Princess Serenade

This is my Princess Serenade cosplay from Eternal Sonata~
I made it for Ayacon 2011 and won the Magical Girl award! :3

Ok this is going to take a while...

The wig was the 'Leia' back parted one from Arda, I used a lot of wire and clear silicone to style it, and hot water and curlers for the bangs. The decorations in the wig were made from painted foam and wooden beads, the crown is a shaped and painted plant pot that was then sewn onto the wig. The collar was shaped from Fosshape and then given layers of cotton lycra and finished with blue resin gems that I cast myself. The belt was made using interfacing, bronze dupion (was the only fabric in that colour) and white bias. The 'buckle' was made of MDF that I had to cut out and shape by hand using a coping saw before being primed and painted, the ball design on the end was made using wooden beads, polystyrene and foam. The gloves were made from cotton lycra.
The main body was made in 4 layers: the dress, the long overskirt, the short overskirt and the cincher (all made with an outer layer and lining of duchess satin). The designs on the dress were all appliqued using more duchess satin, as were the sleeve puffs, and then I added eyelets and suede lacing at the base of the heart design. The long overskirt had 3 layers of lining on the inside to create the lovely lace effect, all appliqued. The outer layer of the long overskirt has hand-sewn glass beads and pompoms, the crystal flowers at the front were made from resin pieces that I cast/coloured myself. The short overskirt was sewn and sealed so that I could cut the pointed edges, then pompoms were hand-sewn onto it. The cincher was properly shaped, eyelets were added and then some suede lacing was pulled through.
The boots were a base pair of ivory heels that I made large covers for. The ivory/white base was made from duchess satin and the blue parts were made from cotton lyrca. On the toes of the shoes I added more of my own cast resin gems and hand-sewn duchess satin roses, and the tops of the boots I hand-sewed the white bias before adding 3D paint designs. There was a large zip down the back of the boots. The wings were my 2nd attempt as I couldn't actually get them the way I wanted them, they are foam with overlays of chiffon, starch and spray paint. The bauble is polystyrene and foam. The staff was made using a painted mop pole with a screw-off top so the headpiece was detachable for traveling. The rings and designs going up the pole were made from MDF and the headpiece was double layered MDF. I drew up the patterns for the pieces and then my friend cut them out using his Jigsaw (he didn't trust me to use it ) and I sanded, primed, painted and assembled them myself.
